Alaska Air Group has declared its most substantial aircraft acquisition ever, ordering as many as 145 Boeing planes. This comprises 110 confirmed purchases and 35 options. In particular, the airline has secured 105 Boeing 737 MAX 10s with options for an additional 35 units, along with five Boeing 787-10s. This acquisition prolongs Alaska’s aircraft delivery schedule until 2035, with ambitions to operate 475 aircraft by 2030 and exceed 550 by 2035. Alaska’s CEO, Ben Minicucci, emphasizes this investment as integral to the Alaska Accelerate strategic initiative, which is focused on growth and fuel-efficient aircraft. The emphasis on larger models such as the 737 MAX 10 and 787-10 indicates a strategy aimed at reducing unit costs and potentially boosting competitiveness in specific markets.
