Etihad Grows to Establish Chicago as Its Largest US Market with Twice-Daily Flights
Etihad Airways is poised to greatly enhance its operations between Abu Dhabi and Chicago. Starting June 15, 2026, the airline will elevate its service frequency from once a day to twice daily. The revised timetable will include departures from Abu Dhabi at 2:55 AM and 10:00 AM, reaching Chicago at 8:35 AM and 3:40 PM, respectively. Return flights from Chicago will leave at 2:00 PM and 9:10 PM, landing in Abu Dhabi the next day. Both services will operate with Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, accommodating 371 passengers, with 44 in business class and 327 in economy class.

This expansion represents a significant development for Etihad, positioning it as the sole Gulf airline offering double daily flights to Chicago, outpacing larger rivals, Emirates and Qatar Airways. Chicago is now set to be Etihad’s highest capacity market in the U.S., overtaking New York, which is served by a combination of Boeing 787s and A350s. The strategy to bolster flights to Chicago, instead of introducing a new destination, reflects Etihad’s aim to broaden its network while taking advantage of its partnership with American Airlines for enhanced connectivity.

Etihad’s growth within the U.S. market is noteworthy, especially given the ongoing obstacles that Gulf carriers are currently encountering due to geopolitical issues. Nevertheless, the airline’s dedication to sustainable growth and expanding capacity in pivotal markets like Chicago showcases its strategic intent to fortify its global footprint. The updated flight schedule is now open for reservations, providing travelers with greater flexibility and travel options between the Middle East and North America.
