Air Seychelles, the flag carrier of the Seychelles, is poised to restart long-distance flights to Paris, even though it currently lacks a suitable aircraft for such journeys. The airline plans to rent a Boeing 787-9 from Etihad Airways to service the route connecting Mahe and Paris from March 22 to April 29, 2026. Flights will be operated three times a week, specifically on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This initiative is in response to the turbulence in the Middle East and its effects on tourism-reliant areas like the Seychelles. The leased plane will feature 290 seats, comprising 28 in business class and 262 in economy. This provisional service signifies a revival of a route that Air Seychelles last serviced in 2018, when it utilized Airbus A330s before a transformation led to the cessation of long-haul flights. The partnership with Etihad, which once held a stake in Air Seychelles, represents a strategic effort to improve connectivity and bolster the tourism sector.
