American Airlines Broadens Business Class Pajamas and Mattress Pads to More Routes
In the summer of 2025, American Airlines took a noteworthy step to bolster its luxury services by adding pajamas and mattress pads in business class on select ultra long-haul flights. These comforts, supplied by Nest, were first offered on routes to and from East Asia, the Middle East, India, Australia, and New Zealand. The eligible flights encompassed locations such as Auckland, Brisbane, Delhi, Doha, Seoul Incheon, Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo Haneda, and Tokyo Narita, departing from major hubs including Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia.

In a positive advancement, American Airlines is broadening the distribution of mattress pads to additional flights. Beginning in late March 2026, mattress pads will be introduced on all international Flagship branded business class flights, as well as on Flagship branded business class flights to Hawaii. These improvements are part of a larger initiative by American to enhance the travel experience and meet customer expectations, as indicated by the airline.

The rollout of these amenities follows American’s introduction of new long-haul business class seats. However, the provision of pajamas and mattress pads is not reliant on the specific aircraft type, ensuring that travelers benefit from these comforts regardless of the business class seat layout.

This initiative aligns with American’s strategy to become more premium and focused on customer satisfaction, a change that has been clear since Heather Garboden’s appointment as Chief Customer Officer. The airline has been implementing various positive adjustments, including overturning previous policies, to strengthen its competitive position against rivals like Delta and United.

While some airlines, such as United, provide pajamas on long-haul flights, American’s policy is particularly generous, offering pajamas even on shorter routes like Tokyo to Los Angeles. Moreover, American is actively providing mattress pads on additional routes, although United’s overall bedding arrangement remains highly esteemed.

In conclusion, American Airlines is making substantial efforts to enhance its business class experience by increasing the accessibility of pajamas and mattress pads. This initiative signifies the airline’s dedication to improving passenger comfort and indicates a positive trajectory in its service offerings.
