In November 2025, International Airlines Group (IAG) revealed its intention to roll out complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi across its airline brands, which include British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus. Recently, British Airways fitted its inaugural aircraft with Starlink Wi-Fi, and now there’s encouraging news as the first Aer Lingus aircraft has also been equipped with the service. Additionally, information is available regarding the expected timeline for the installation of this service on most of the remaining Aer Lingus fleet.
Aer Lingus is collaborating with SpaceX to deploy Starlink Wi-Fi throughout its fleet, encompassing both long-haul and short-haul aircraft. The most appealing aspect is that Aer Lingus is providing Starlink Wi-Fi at no cost to all passengers. This system allows connections with various devices, such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
Moreover, Aer Lingus does not mandate that you be a member of its loyalty program to access the service, standing in contrast to other IAG airlines that are utilizing Starlink to boost loyalty program enrollments.
Starlink is recognized for delivering high-speed, low-latency broadband internet, and the service is available from gate to gate. Starlink Wi-Fi supports live streaming, productivity akin to that on the ground (with impressive upload and download speeds), gaming, e-commerce, and more.
Starlink’s popularity among airlines is on the rise. So far, we have witnessed airlines like airBaltic, Air France, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Emirates, Gulf Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia, Korean Air, Lufthansa Group, Qatar Airways, SAS, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and WestJet announce plans to equip their fleets with the service.
Aer Lingus has just announced that it has commenced its Starlink Wi-Fi deployment. In a strategic move, Aer Lingus is starting the Starlink Wi-Fi installation on its Airbus A330 aircraft, which are responsible for the airline’s longest flights. The A330 with the registration number EI-EIN is the first to receive this service.
After the installation of Starlink antennas, the aircraft underwent rigorous testing in preparation for its first passenger service. Today, this plane completed its inaugural passenger flight on route EI5 from Dublin (DUB) to New York (JFK). This development paves the way for a broader fleet rollout later this year.
Aer Lingus anticipates equipping all long-haul aircraft with Starlink by the first quarter of 2027, which will include all A330 (A330-200 and A330-300) and A321 (A321LR and A321XLR) aircraft. Subsequently, mainline aircraft operating regional services primarily within Europe will receive Starlink, although the timeline for that remains uncertain.
Here’s how Aer Lingus CEO Lynne Embleton articulates this milestone:
“Implementing Starlink on our first aircraft is a significant achievement for Aer Lingus. It allows our customers to browse, download, and stream at speeds that match or exceed what they experience at home.
“This level of connectivity is transformative. It offers our customers greater flexibility in how they spend their time aboard and enhances the efficiency of our crews and teams. As we commemorate our 90th anniversary, Starlink is just one of several customer enhancements we are bringing to Aer Lingus.”
Aer Lingus is rolling out free Starlink Wi-Fi, with installations already in progress. The first A330 is now equipped with the service, and it is expected that all aircraft operating long-haul flights will have Starlink by early 2027, at which point regional aircraft will also receive the service. Unlike non-IAG airlines, Aer Lingus does not require passengers to join the loyalty program to access the service.
