Park Hyatt Taormina: 121-Suite Hotel Set to Open in Sicily in 2028
In May 2025, I reported on plans for a Park Hyatt to debut in Sicily. Although it hadn’t been officially announced, Hyatt’s website was updated to indicate this development. New information has emerged, as Hyatt has now officially confirmed this project, allowing us to anticipate when the hotel will launch… fingers crossed!

Capo dei Greci is set to transform into Park Hyatt Taormina

The Park Hyatt Taormina aims to open in 2028, located in Sicily, marking the second property for the Park Hyatt brand in Italy, following the Park Hyatt Milan. The anticipated 121-suite hotel is designed to feature private terraces, vistas of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, locally inspired dining options, and a spa.

Reading between the lines, this seems to indicate a rebranding of a current property. Specifically, Capo dei Greci is slated for conversion into the Park Hyatt. Last year, the hotel’s owners shared the following message on their website:

“The current hotel will be transformed into a luxury lifestyle resort managed by a globally recognized brand, complemented by numerous sophisticated F&B outlets, expansive gardens and pools, and a 1,000 sqm Spa in collaboration with Omnam Investment Group. The hotel will enjoy the advantage of rare direct and private access to the sea.”

The existing property (now closed) boasts a stunning location, indicating significant potential.

However, it’s worth noting that the current property is definitely not a luxury resort. Therefore, substantial renovation will be needed to elevate it to Park Hyatt standards. It’s unsurprising that this is a multi-year endeavor, and I simply hope the timeline doesn’t extend too far beyond the 2028 opening date currently projected. Sicily isn’t particularly renowned for rapid construction…

To be fair, it’s also slightly misleading to claim this property is situated in Taormina, at least by common perceptions. This hotel is a good 20+ minute drive from the part of Taormina that most visitors are interested in.

This is an intriguing property, and I am eager to learn more

Sicily is a stunning destination. Historically, it hasn’t captured the attention of Americans, although The White Lotus Season 2 marked a pivotal moment, making it one of the most sought-after new locales. This, coupled with recent travel trends, has seen many Americans making at least one annual trip to Europe a norm.

We’ve witnessed considerable growth in luxury hotels throughout Sicily, including those from international brands. For instance, the Four Seasons Taormina launched in 2021 after converting from an existing property. However, this growth presents a dual-edged sword.

I’m sure some individuals might not appreciate the type of tourism this engenders on the island, believing it detracts from its charm. Conversely, it undeniably benefits the local economy.

In summary

A Park Hyatt is on its way to Taormina, Sicily, via the transformation of the old Capo dei Greci property. The hotel is projected to open in 2028 and will offer 121 suites, although those are all the details available at this time. I’ll be sure to share more information as it comes to light.

What are your thoughts on the plans for Park Hyatt Sicily?
