In September 2024, the South American airline leader LATAM made a significant move in its fleet modernization plan by placing an order for as many as 74 Embraer E195-E2 jets. This order comprises 24 definite purchases and 50 options, with the initial aircraft anticipated to start operating in the last quarter of 2026. The arrangement amounts to a potential value of up to $2.1 billion at catalog prices, although airlines usually negotiate for reduced rates.
The Embraer E195-E2 represents the latest generation of jets from the Brazilian company, renowned for its fuel efficiency and traveler-friendly design. It accommodates between 120-146 passengers and has a range of up to 2,600 nautical miles. The aircraft incorporates a 2-2 seating arrangement, which removes middle seats and boosts passenger comfort.
LATAM’s CEO, Roberto Alvo, emphasized the aircraft’s strong economic performance and adaptability, which support the airline’s objective of broadening its domestic and regional network. The Embraer E195-E2 will allow LATAM to launch new routes and improve connections throughout South America, aiding economic and social progress.
The new jets will come with 136 seats divided between two classes: premium economy and economy. Premium economy will provide up to 20 seats featuring extra legroom, enhanced recline, and tailored service, with no seats blocked due to the 2-2 layout. Every passenger will enjoy adjustable headrests, USB-C charging sockets, and access to LATAM Play’s wide array of entertainment options. Complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi will be offered to LATAM Pass members.
At first, LATAM Brazil, the largest subsidiary within the group, will operate the Embraer E195-E2s. The aircraft’s economics and capability to operate from shorter runways make it ideal for adding as many as 35 new destinations to LATAM’s network. It is also expected to eventually take the place of LATAM Brazil’s aging Airbus A319 fleet, providing enhanced passenger experience and fuel efficiency.
