A Comprehensive Exploration of Riyadh Air's Remarkable Hafawa Lounge in Riyadh
Hello from Saudi Arabia, where I am currently on a review trip. The primary objective of my visit to Saudi Arabia is to experience Riyadh Air, the most well-funded and ambitious airline startup we’ve seen in quite some time (it certainly helps to have backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund).

The airline commenced commercial operations just a few weeks ago, and I will be flying in business class from Riyadh (RUH) to Madrid (MAD).

Before my flight, I had the opportunity to explore the Riyadh Air Hafawa Lounge at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. It’s uncommon for an airline to offer a genuine flagship lounge experience at launch, making this noteworthy in itself.

Nonetheless, Riyadh Air has truly excelled with this lounge. It will undoubtedly be included in my list of the finest business class lounges globally, and in terms of lounge aesthetics, I believe it may rival Cathay Pacific’s standard (which is the highest praise).

Although a comprehensive review will follow shortly, I’d like to provide some initial impressions of this 2,000 square meter (21,500 square foot) lounge, designed to accommodate 370 guests.

The Riyadh Air Hafawa Lounge features stunning design

As I mentioned, this is merely an initial impressions post, so I’ll reserve most of my insights for the detailed review. Let me begin by showcasing several images of the lounge area to give you a feel for the design.

For some context, the lounge is divided into various themed zones, catering to those who wish to rest, socialize, dine, or immerse themselves in digital experiences. Overall, the design draws inspiration from the diverse landscapes of Saudi Arabia.

The attention to detail in this lounge is among the finest I’ve encountered anywhere, encompassing the lighting, the ambient music, and convenient access to multiple charging ports. This is undoubtedly one of those lounges in which every single detail was thoughtfully planned.

I must also highlight that for the time being, this lounge serves as a true haven of tranquility, with Riyadh Air just beginning to scale its operations. This lounge was clearly designed for an airline with significantly more aircraft than what Riyadh Air currently possesses. In a time of overcrowded lounges, that’s quite delightful!

The Riyadh Air Hafawa Lounge offers excellent food & amenities

The Riyadh Air Hafawa Lounge presents a food offering that competes with the top business class lounges out there.

There is a vast buffet, which alone would provide a solid selection, featuring both hot and cold items. We’re primarily looking at individually plated cold dishes, along with eight hot options that I found to be of very high quality.

However, that’s just the beginning, as there is also a la carte dining available, which I found to be exceptionally high quality. Guests are welcome to order as much as they desire and are encouraged to enjoy a three-course meal. Given the late-night and early morning flights from the Middle East, it’s a perfect way to dine before boarding.

Then, there’s a cafe area, offering barista-made coffee, tea, and desserts.

Lastly, the bar area serves some creatively crafted mocktails, including the signature “Lavender Haze.”

I acknowledge that the lounge is “dry,” meaning no alcohol is available. For many, alcohol is a significant aspect of the lounge experience, which may be less than ideal. A nice glass of wine or a negroni could have further enhanced this lounge experience.

In addition to the delicious food, the lounge boasts other solid amenities, ranging from private quiet rooms (each with its own door)…
