American Airlines has revealed plans to enhance its complimentary economy snack selections. While not a significant overhaul, it serves as a reminder of how minor, positive adjustments can influence passengers’ perceptions…
American unveiling additional economy snack options
American provides complimentary snacks to economy travelers, which are served alongside drinks. Until now, the options have been limited to Biscoff cookies or generic pretzels. This will soon change, with a consistently available sweet and savory choice:
- On morning flights, passengers will be able to choose between Biscoff cookies or Goldfish
- For the remainder of the day, the selections will include Tate’s Bake Shop chocolate chip cookies or Peterson’s sweet and savory snack mix
The new selections are anticipated to be available beginning in early October 2026. Here’s how Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, characterizes this update:
“Minor details can significantly enhance the travel experience, particularly the familiar elements customers look forward to during their journey. In reviewing our snack offerings, we aimed to perfect this refresh by considering customer feedback and recognizing what travelers value most. This updated assortment combines cherished favorites with new selections that feel familiar, refined, and enjoyable.”
Kudos, this is a minor but positive change for American
Clearly, this individual change won’t compel anyone to book with American. Nonetheless, it’s a minor enhancement that the majority of customers will value, given that it’s not limited to specific routes or lounges. It’s encouraging to witness the speed at which American is implementing positive changes across cabins. The management finally acknowledges how far it has fallen behind in recent years and what customers truly care about.
I commend American’s management for these alterations. It must be recognized that the recent surge of positive changes stems from the management having neglected customer experience for many years, and much of what we observe is merely a replication of the competition’s strategies.
Thus, I hesitate to be overly complimentary for simply recognizing the obvious, especially since many of the same individuals have been present throughout and contributed to the previous downward trend. However, a positive change is still a positive change, and I’m pleased to observe this.
Bottom line
Starting October 2026, American will enhance the snacks it offers in economy. Instead of only providing Biscoffs and generic pretzels throughout the day, there will be a choice of Biscoffs or Goldfish in the morning, along with Tate’s Bake Shop chocolate chip cookies and Peterson’s savory and sweet snack mix for the rest of the day. Keep it coming, American!
