Delta to Introduce Improved Business Class Soft Product Featuring Enhanced Meals and Service
Airlines continually invest in their passenger experience, as it’s an ongoing endeavor. Currently, we know Delta is enhancing its long-haul flights, which encompasses new lounges, new seating, and additional services.

While specifics are still scarce, we are now discovering that Delta will soon introduce a new soft product in business class, so we can anticipate updated meals, service, amenities, and more.

In this post:

Delta’s forthcoming business class meals & service debut

JonNYC reports that Delta will commence training flight attendants next week for the next generation Delta One experience. The rollout is expected to be gradual, starting this fall for long-haul flights from Los Angeles (LAX) and expanding to the majority of long-haul routes by 2027.

A new soft product would be distinct from the current hard product upgrades we’re witnessing. We know that Delta will take delivery of its new “flagship” Airbus A350-1000s by 2027, which will feature new business class suites. The airline is also acquiring A350-900s and A330-900neos with larger premium cabins, in addition to retrofitting existing A330s with updated interiors.

What adjustments might we observe in Delta business class?

At present, we can only hypothesize about what the new Delta One business class soft product will involve. To begin, I have a few considerations.

Firstly, I anticipate this will be more of an evolution than a revolution, given Delta’s recent investments in its soft product. For instance, we have recently witnessed the airline introduce Missoni bedding, amenity kits, and the like. Delta strategically invests in its offerings — it enjoys rolling out service items that generate buzz, particularly in collaboration with high-end brands.

Secondly, I must assume Delta feels pressure from United, especially as it seeks to enhance its international network. Although Delta executives strive to maintain composure, they must be motivated to create something innovative that they believe will surpass what United presents.

With that in view, there are several clear areas where Delta could invest:

– I expect we’ll see new tableware and glassware introduced, as those have not been revamped in quite some time.

– Perhaps we’ll witness an entirely new service concept; could we have dine-on-demand in business class, or a more restaurant-style experience, with dishes served directly on tray tables instead of on trays?

– Might we see a significant investment in food and drink quality? Delta does a reasonably good job in this regard, but there’s definitely potential for improvement.

Bottom line

Delta will soon begin training flight attendants on modifications to business class service. These changes are expected to roll out starting fall 2026 from LAX, progressively expanding throughout the network in 2027.

Delta is implementing new and upgraded business class seating, but the objective is also to enhance the soft product. It remains uncertain what this will include, but I anticipate we’ll see updates to food, beverages, presentation, service flow, and more.

What are your expectations for the revamped Delta One service?
