A few days ago, Air Canada hinted at new long-haul routes and encouraged the public to speculate on what they might entail. The anticipation has finally concluded, as Air Canada has revealed its most recent global expansion. The list features some intriguing new routes, which isn’t unexpected considering Air Canada’s robust network.
In this post:
Air Canada’s five new global destinations for 2027
Air Canada has declared its intention to introduce five new international destinations and a total of seven new routes in the summer of 2027. The airline will be adding the following destinations to its offerings:
– Basel, Switzerland (BSL)
– Dubrovnik, Croatia (DBV)
– Guangzhou, China (CAN)
– Oslo, Norway (OSL)
– Shannon, Ireland (SNN)
Additionally, the airline is incorporating two new routes to already existing destinations — specifically, flights from Toronto (YYZ) to Nice, France (NCE), and Guatemala City, Guatemala (GUA). In this post, the primary focus will be on the new destinations.
Here’s how Air Canada’s Chief Commercial Officer and network strategy expert (not an official job title!), Mark Galardo, articulates this development:
“Summer 2027 represents the most significant intercontinental growth in Air Canada’s history, solidifying our standing as the second largest North American airline by global destinations served. As Canada’s flag carrier, our further investments aim to enhance connections and establish our country as a vital crossover point for major international demand flows under our New Frontiers strategy. From the vast trade hub in the Pearl River Delta to the serene Adriatic coastline, each of our five new destinations, along with numerous schedule modifications, supports commerce and tourism, and opens up thrilling new possibilities for people to discover the world.”
“Overall, our schedule echoes our dedication to championing Canada on the global stage, capitalizing on the prospects facilitated by a growing, next-generation fleet of Airbus A321XLR and wide-body aircraft, the extensive networks we have fostered at our three Canadian hubs, and the unwavering loyalty of our customers and Aeroplan Members. Critically, our strategy and growth foster jobs and trade, connecting individuals, and bridging the six inhabited continents through Canada. With more new aircraft set to arrive soon, anticipate even further exciting network announcements and details regarding our initial Boeing 787-10 operations from Air Canada in the upcoming months.”
