American Airlines and Hyatt Conclude Partnership: Slight Effect Aside from Status Fast Track Advantages
In 2019, American AAdvantage and World of Hyatt initiated a collaboration, presenting mutual status and points earning possibilities. Initially quite beneficial, it has been considerably diminished over time. We’ve now discovered that the “enhanced” collaboration will be terminated completely.

American AAdvantage & World of Hyatt sever ties

American AAdvantage and World of Hyatt will conclude their partnership in the forthcoming months. As stated, this decision was made after “careful consideration,” and it was “mutually agreed upon.”

For the remaining duration of each program’s current year, American AAdvantage and World of Hyatt members will experience no disruption in earning, selecting, or redeeming their eligible benefits:

– American AAdvantage members who link their accounts by November 15, 2026, can continue earning World of Hyatt awards through the Loyalty Point Rewards program until February 28, 2027.
– World of Hyatt members who link their accounts by November 15, 2026, can keep earning AAdvantage awards via the Milestone Rewards program until December 31, 2026.

It’s important to note that while the “enhanced” partnership is concluding, the fundamental partnership between the two brands will remain. With this, AAdvantage members can still earn 500 AAdvantage miles for every qualifying Hyatt stay, instead of accruing World of Hyatt points (which I wouldn’t deem particularly valuable).

What are the tangible effects of this alteration?

When American AAdvantage and World of Hyatt initially formed their partnership, it brought substantial advantages. This was because American AAdvantage members could earn one mile for each dollar spent with Hyatt, while World of Hyatt members could earn one point for every dollar spent with American, in addition to the “native” earning opportunities.

The two entities significantly reduced their partnership as of early 2025, leading to the cessation of automatic reciprocal points earning. Subsequently, the main advertised benefit has been the option to utilize the Loyalty Point Rewards and Milestone Rewards programs for redeeming perks with the alternate program. However, I always viewed that as an inherently inefficient redemption method.

In my perspective, the most significant value of this partnership has been the reciprocal status challenge opportunities we encountered each year. Though not formally publicized, these offers appeared annually, providing a fantastic avenue for a status fast track with either program. It’s unfortunate that we won’t see those moving forward.

I am intrigued by the motivations behind this change, especially since World of Hyatt and Air Canada Aeroplan recently established a partnership. Did American demand some form of exclusivity? Or is World of Hyatt pursuing a new collaboration with Delta SkyMiles or something? I suspect it wouldn’t involve United MileagePlus, considering its close association with Marriott Bonvoy.

Bottom line

American AAdvantage and World of Hyatt will conclude their “enhanced” partnership at the end of the current program year. To be honest, this partnership has offered little value since early 2025 when reciprocal points earning ceased.

The main documented perk since then has been the ability to (largely inefficiently) redeem Loyalty Point Rewards and Milestone Rewards perks for the other program. The additional benefit has been an informal annual status challenge, which I believe represents the most significant loss here.

What are your thoughts on American and Hyatt ending their partnership?
