Biman Bangladesh Grows Fleet with Purchase of 14 Brand New Boeing Planes
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the flag carrier of Bangladesh, has recently captured attention by placing its largest aircraft order in its history, representing a major advancement in the airline’s fleet modernization initiatives. The airline has pledged to acquire 14 new Boeing aircraft, comprising eight Boeing 787-10s, two Boeing 787-9s, and four Boeing 737 MAX 8s. This calculated decision aims to improve the airline’s operational efficiency and broaden its international route network.

The Boeing 787-10s, which are being ordered for the first time by Biman Bangladesh, are set to serve high-demand routes to the Middle East, providing enhanced capacity and better fuel efficiency. The two additional Boeing 787-9s will augment the airline’s current fleet of 787-9s, facilitating long-haul operations to Europe and North America. Simultaneously, the Boeing 737 MAX 8s, also a first for the airline, will be utilized on routes linking Bangladesh to destinations throughout the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia.

Deliveries of these aircraft are anticipated between November 2031 and October 2035, showcasing a long-term vision for the airline’s development and modernization. Biman Bangladesh’s CEO, Kaizer Sohel Ahmed, highlighted the significance of this order, asserting that the new aircraft will refresh the fleet, improve operational performance, and bolster Bangladesh’s presence in the international aviation arena.

At present, Biman Bangladesh manages a fleet of 19 aircraft, which includes four Boeing 737-800s, four Boeing 777-300ERs, six Boeing 787s, and five De Havilland Dash 8s. The new order will substitute the existing 737-800s and 777-300ERs, while the added 787-9s will facilitate further growth in long-haul markets. This fleet rejuvenation will lead to a predominantly wide-body aircraft fleet, a strategic choice considering the high-volume point-to-point markets the airline services.

Notably, this order follows Biman Bangladesh’s earlier announcement in June 2023 to order 10 Airbus A350 aircraft, a plan that was never actualized. The airline’s choice to uphold an all-Boeing jet fleet reinforces its dedication to operational consistency and efficiency.

In conclusion, Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ significant aircraft order with Boeing marks a crucial juncture in the airline’s journey, set to enhance its competitive advantage and service offerings in the years to come. The aviation industry and travelers alike are keenly awaiting the arrival of these state-of-the-art aircraft, which are set to elevate the travel experience and operational capabilities of Bangladesh’s national carrier.
