Ahead of the 150th Kentucky Derby on May 4, travelers will have the chance to try out a new type of Clear lane at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) in Kentucky.

Last week, the expedited airport security program launched Clear Mobile lane at SDF — an app-based lane for Clear users in lieu of a regular Clear lane.

Although SDF has no Clear Plus lane, travelers passing through this airport can still use a Clear-only lane. To use this lane, passengers must download the Clear app, log in and/or create an account and download a QR code; you’ll have to show this code along with your ID.

Access is free for Clear members. Nonmembers can purchase a daypass that’s valid for 24 hours for $9.

Clear notes two important distinctions between Clear Mobile and Clear Plus. You’ll still need to show your ID and boarding pass to verify your identity when using the Clear Mobile lane. Additionally, the airport determines whether Clear Mobile users can go through the TSA PreCheck lane.

In a regular Clear lane, a Clear representative escorts Clear users to the Transportation Security Administration screening area after verifying identity. If these travelers are also enrolled in TSA PreCheck, they go directly to the TSA PreCheck line.

Also, note that travelers can add up to nine mobile lane passes for $9 each. As with standard Clear service, children under 18 can accompany travelers in Clear Mobile lanes for free; those 18 and older must have a membership or purchase their own pass.

Clear costs $189 annually, but some credit cards cover the cost entirely or at a discounted rate.
