Even though I possess several credit cards, I seldom face credit card fraud, owing to the strong security measures that most credit cards provide against these occurrences. Recently, however, I noticed seven unauthorized transactions on my Citi Double Cash Card, all associated with Grab in Malaysia. Grab operates similarly to Uber in Asia and had charges varying from $19.99 to $124.91, listed under “Miscellaneous – Poi Funding Transactions.”
Interestingly, I had utilized Grab for the first time while in Malaysia, but I had used a different card for that transaction, and my Citi Double Cash Card is not registered in my Grab account. I still have the card in my possession, which raises concerns about how this fraud transpired. Could it be mere coincidence, or did someone obtain my card information while I was traveling? The transactions do not show up in my Grab account, and the card was kept in my backpack along with other cards, none of which were compromised.
This situation is bewildering, and I am open to any hypotheses regarding how this fraud could have occurred. Credit card fraud is always fascinating, with the techniques utilized being quite interesting. If you have any thoughts on this unusual situation, I would be eager to hear them.
