Delta Unveils New Delta One Suites Showcasing Business Class Plus Offering
In recent times, airlines have progressively rolled out “business class plus” offerings, a movement that illustrates the sector’s strategy to further differentiate the market. This idea entails taking advantage of the additional space generally available at bulkheads in the latest design business class seats to provide a service with greater space and enhanced amenities, at a higher cost than standard business class tickets.

Among the major U.S. airlines, American Airlines and United Airlines have already implemented such offerings, with American presenting the Flagship Suite Preferred and United unveiling the Polaris Studio. Delta Air Lines has now announced plans to embrace this trend, which has taken some industry analysts by surprise.

Delta’s luxury business class option, called Delta One, is utilized for international and premium transcontinental flights. The airline intends to roll out a new Delta One variant on its forthcoming Airbus A350-1000s and refurbish many of its A330s with new Delta One sections. Despite earlier doubts regarding Delta’s intentions for a business class plus service, a recent dialogue with Delta’s Chief Commercial Officer, Joe Esposito, affirmed the carrier’s plans to incorporate a “mini first class” seat within Delta One. This offering will be found on future aircraft, delivering increased space in the front seats, notably in the bulkhead configurations.

Delta will be the inaugural customer for the new Thompson Aero VantageNOVA product, which is set to launch with the Airbus A350-1000 deliveries. This product facilitates a VantageNOVA First offering without necessitating much more space. The visual representations of Delta’s upcoming business class initially hinted at no unique product, but it seems the airline has yet to disclose all information, including possible alterations for the front row design.

The distinctive front row business class feature is also anticipated to be part of the retrofitted Airbus A330-200/300s, which will showcase the Thompson Aero Vantage XL offering, akin to Delta’s A330-900neos. This strategy aligns with Virgin Atlantic’s A330-900neo Upper Class service, where the first row is designated as a “Retreat Suite.”

As Delta gears up to unveil this new proposition, it is still unclear what upscale services will accompany it. This initiative aligns with the larger industry trend of maximizing earnings through the provision of exclusive seats at bulkhead locations. Delta’s ambitions for a business class plus service underline the airline’s dedication to enhancing its premium experiences and seizing further revenue from customers desiring increased space and comfort.
