Emirates Starts Implementing Complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi on 777 and A380 Planes
In November 2025, Emirates unveiled intentions to implement Starlink Wi-Fi, which is incredibly thrilling, considering the unimpressive condition of the airline’s current Wi-Fi offerings. Initially, the carrier began with Starlink installations on its 777s, but there’s now a positive development, as A380s are also starting to receive the service.

Emirates to introduce complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi across its entire fleet by mid-2027

Emirates is collaborating with SpaceX to roll out Starlink Wi-Fi throughout its fleet. When accessible, Starlink Wi-Fi is complimentary, allowing travelers to connect with just one click on all devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones. There’s no requirement to be an Emirates Skywards member to access the service.

What’s particularly remarkable is the speed at which Emirates is enhancing its Wi-Fi service. The goal is to have Starlink Wi-Fi on the whole fleet by mid-2027, with 14 aircraft being fitted with the service each month.

So, what’s the present situation? Up to now, 25 Emirates Boeing 777s have been equipped with Starlink, and the project is progressing rapidly. Additionally, Emirates has now installed Starlink on its inaugural Airbus A380, ensuring both types of aircraft are equipped simultaneously.

Starlink is recognized for its high-speed, low-latency broadband internet, and the service is available gate to gate. Starlink Wi-Fi facilitates live streaming, efficient productivity akin to that on the ground (boasting high upload and download speeds), gaming, e-commerce, and more. Emirates is also permitting passengers to make calls using the service, which can be somewhat contentious. Having recently experienced my first flights with Starlink, I can assert that this is a transformative change, in my opinion.

Starlink is increasingly favored by airlines. So far, we have witnessed carriers like Aer Lingus, airBaltic, Air France, Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Copa Airlines, Gulf Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia, Korean Air, Lufthansa Group, Qatar Airways, SAS, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and WestJet all announce plans to implement the service.

Starlink Wi-Fi is coming to Emirates’ fleet

Here’s how Emirates President Tim Clark characterizes this advancement (which contains some intriguing commentary regarding consistency at other airlines):

“Partnering with Starlink represents another pivotal moment in our ongoing pledge to ensure our customers ‘fly better’. We’re introducing the world’s quickest Wi-Fi, enhancing what passengers can expect from inflight connectivity, including seamless productivity, real-time communication with loved ones, and an uninterrupted connection to their digital realities. But that’s just one aspect of the transformation occurring throughout our fleet.

“Starlink is being installed alongside the most ambitious cabin refurbishment initiative in aviation, encompassing brand new Premium Economy cabins, an upgraded Business Class, revitalized First Class, expanded and improved entertainment system technologies, and now, industry-leading connectivity.”

“Emirates’ approach is straightforward yet impactful: we endeavor to deliver consistency. While others offer a bewildering array of products across a diverse fleet, we aim for all our customers to enjoy Emirates’ top products and not only on select routes or aircraft types. That’s why we’re heavily investing in our retrofit program.

“The most advanced connectivity, extraordinary cabins, extensive entertainment, and world-class service from our skilled Cabin Crew – all these components illustrate our significant investment and dedication to enhancing the air travel experience.”

This is a highly overdue progression for Emirates

Of course, it’s wonderful to observe airlines introducing complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi in general. Nonetheless, I don’t believe there’s a global airline that was more urgently in need of a Wi-Fi improvement than Emirates. The Dubai-based carrier has traditionally utilized OnAir for its connectivity, which is painfully slow and feels about two decades outdated.

If you actually needed to accomplish any work, Wi-Fi on the A380s and 777s was virtually unusable, aside from basic texting.

So while many airlines are upgrading to Starlink Wi-Fi, these are primarily airlines that previously had Intelsat, Panasonic, Viasat, etc. Transitioning from OnAir to Starlink is like moving from Ryanair economy to Emirates first class.

This is a tremendous enhancement to Emirates’ passenger experience, and it’s also remarkable how swiftly the airline is deploying this service. In just over a year, we should see this available on a significant majority of aircraft. Perhaps the only other airline experiencing such a Wi-Fi transformation is Panama’s Copa, which is progressing from having no Wi-Fi to Starlink.

Bottom line

Emirates is currently rolling out complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi. The airline aims to equip approximately 14 planes each month, and thus far 25 777s and one A380 have adopted the service.
