**Philippine Airlines A330 Business Class Review: An Uneven Experience**

On the return segment of my first-class trip to Japan, I chose Philippine Airlines’ Airbus A330-300 business class for the 3-hour and 15-minute journey from Osaka Kansai (KIX) to Manila (MNL). This experience featured both positives and negatives.

**Booking and Itinerary**

I arranged my return journey from Osaka to Manila to San Francisco as a single ticket, with the initial flight on the Airbus A330 and the subsequent one on the Airbus A350, totaling $1,746.63. I redeemed this expenditure using 116,442 Chase Ultimate Rewards points, estimating each point at 1.5 cents.

**Lounge and Boarding**

Upon arrival at Kansai Osaka International Airport Terminal 1, I checked in at the Philippine Airlines counter since online check-in was unavailable. Despite a minor seat reassignment due to a malfunctioning seat, the procedure was efficient. I accessed the KIX Lounge Kansai before proceeding to gate 21 for boarding, which began promptly for business class passengers.

**Cabin and Seating**

The A330 business class cabin comprised 18 seats arranged in a 2-2-2 setup. Regrettably, the seat design was disappointing, featuring minimal padding and restricted storage. The seats did not include individual air nozzles or seat back entertainment, and the tray tables were fragile. The cabin’s visual appeal and upkeep were lacking.

**Entertainment and Amenities**

The A330 was devoid of Wi-Fi and seat back entertainment, providing streaming alternatives via tablets instead. Business class amenities included an adequate pillow, a somewhat rough blanket, and delicate slippers. Pre-departure beverages were offered, allowing a choice of a kiwi smoothie, orange juice, or Mabuhay Punch.

**In-Flight Service and Dining**

The friendliness of the crew was a standout feature, as they delivered attentive service throughout the flight. The meal service included a Japanese choice, which was well-prepared and satisfying. However, the beverage selection, particularly the sparkling wine, was rather unimpressive.

**Arrival in Manila**

The flight reached Manila ahead of schedule, featuring a smooth descent despite the rainy weather. The deplaning procedure was managed effectively, allowing business class passengers to disembark first.

**Conclusion**

Philippine Airlines’ A330 business class provided an uneven experience. While the crew’s hospitality and the quality of the Japanese meal were praiseworthy, the seat design and absence of modern conveniences were lacking. For a brief daytime flight, it was adequate, but the overall product did not meet competitive benchmarks.
