Alaska Air Group has revealed a major shift in the future of Hawaiian Airlines’ inter-island operations. Commencing in 2028, Hawaiian Airlines will acquire a number of Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800s to substitute their existing Boeing 717s. This change is designed to improve passenger experience and boost capacity, as the 737-800s provide more seating and features such as complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi and extra cargo room. This initiative is part of a strategic choice to maintain service frequencies and cater to local demand, in addition to tackling the tough economics of inter-island travel.
