Hilton is making a high-end move in Greece with the Conrad Athens, The Ilisian – The Points Guy

Greece continues to improve, particularly for Hilton Honors members planning a trip to Athens.

The recently announced transformation of the former Hilton Athens will turn it into a versatile destination named The Ilisian. This development will feature the Conrad Athens hotel, Conrad- and Waldorf Astoria-branded residences, as well as a variety of restaurants, bars, and additional amenities.

Located in the Ilisia neighborhood of Athens, to the east of prominent tourist sites such as the Acropolis, The Ilisian aims to combine modern international trends with the city’s cultural heritage, crafting a social hub for both local residents and tourists, as stated by Ionian Hotel Enterprises.

THE ILISIAN

Prior to its recent renovation, the historic building functioned as the Hilton Athens, a landmark that introduced Greece to the global luxury tourism market. At its inauguration in 1963, the grand opening was attended by then-first lady Jacqueline Kennedy.

Now, 61 years after its inception, the building will remain under the Hilton family’s ownership, emphasizing the company’s luxury brands. The Conrad Athens will feature 278 rooms and suites, along with conference and event facilities. Furthermore, there will be 55 serviced residences marketed as the Conrad Residences Athens, The Ilisian, and Waldorf Astoria Athens, The Ilisian.

The integrated hotel and residences development will also boast Athens’ largest pool area, a rooftop garden, and outdoor sports facilities.

Opposite The Ilisian, there will be ten establishments encompassing bars, restaurants, and lounges. Among them will be The Galaxy Dispensary and The Galaxy Supper Club, offering a modern reinterpretation of the Hilton Athens’ renowned Galaxy Bar, situated on the top floor. Additionally, the legendary Athens restaurant The Byzantino will be revamped to serve a Greek-French fusion menu. Other venues will include a Japanese restaurant, a lobby bar, a poolside restaurant and bar, and several other options.

THE ILISIAN

The Ilisian will also provide a membership club similar to Soho House, granting members access to lounge areas, workspaces, a gym, both indoor and outdoor pools, along with entertainment and club events.

The wellness sections of the multibrand facility will feature pickleball courts, a running track, dedicated training studios, as well as a wellness clinic and spa providing services from acupuncture to cosmetic treatments.

As a comprehensive community hub, it will feature a retail complex centered around a curated concept store that showcases fashion, art, and design, including high-end products not yet available in the country.

During the renovation and construction of The Ilisian, public art displays will be showcased around the building. These exhibits will emphasize the building’s historic past, local street art, and pieces from up-and-coming Greek artists, among other elements.

During an event revealing The Ilisan, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated that the property will link Athens’ historical heritage with its promising future. He stated, “Its contemporary functioning will once more, in its unique manner, integrate into the fresh perception of a nation that embraces new and expansive horizons.”

The Ilisian is anticipated to launch next year.
