Lufthansa Group to Offer Complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi on More Than 850 Aircraft
In recent updates, the Lufthansa Group has revealed intentions to implement Starlink Wi-Fi throughout its entire fleet, covering carriers such as Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Eurowings, Air Dolomiti, and Edelweiss. This service will be complimentary for travelers with a Miles & More Travel ID, which can be registered at no cost. The initial introduction will kick off with the first Lufthansa Airbus A320neo featuring Starlink set to enter service on August 19, 2026. However, the full implementation across all affiliated airlines is expected to extend until 2029.

Starlink, recognized for its rapid, low-latency broadband internet, will deliver gate-to-gate connectivity, enabling passengers to partake in activities such as live streaming, gaming, and online shopping. This initiative represents a major advancement for the Lufthansa Group, as it seeks to improve the in-flight experience by incorporating high-speed internet across every travel class and airline within the group.

While Lufthansa Group is the last of the prominent European airline networks to disclose such proposals, it sets itself apart by pledging to a unified group-wide rollout. This differs from other groups like Air France-KLM and IAG, which have not revealed similar strategies for all their subsidiaries.

The rollout is projected to span more than three years, with an emphasis likely placed on leading carriers like Lufthansa and SWISS, which already boast sophisticated Wi-Fi systems. In contrast, airlines such as Brussels Airlines, which currently do not have Wi-Fi, will gain considerably from this enhancement.

In summary, the launch of Starlink Wi-Fi across the Lufthansa Group fleet is set to improve the travel experience, although passengers will need to remain patient as the implementation unfolds.
