New Admirals Club Featuring Outdoor Terrace Set to Launch in Austin
American Airlines has revealed intentions to launch a new Admirals Club at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The forthcoming lounge will cover 12,000 square feet, nearly doubling the airline’s existing lounge area at the airport. It is set to be positioned on the terminal’s west side and will showcase American’s updated lounge design, providing views of downtown Austin and the airport. The lounge will feature separate zones for relaxation, dining, working, and recharging, and will be the first in the Admirals Club network to include an outdoor terrace space. Construction is expected to commence this year, with the existing lounge remaining operational until the new one is finished, which is projected for late 2027 or 2028.

This initiative aligns with American’s wider strategy to upgrade its lounge network, even as the airline has scaled back its ambitions in Austin following an initial push to make the city a key market after the pandemic. While American has decreased its operations at AUS, mainly servicing hubs and focus cities, Delta has continued to broaden its influence in Austin.

American’s Chief Customer Officer, Heather Garboden, shared her enthusiasm for the new lounge, emphasizing its embodiment of Austin’s lively spirit and the premium amenities it will provide. This investment in Austin is part of a succession of positive announcements from American about its lounge network, including new Flagship Lounges planned for Miami and Charlotte. However, these initiatives are still in the preliminary phases, and timelines for their completion remain unclear.
