Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) to be Renamed in Tribute to Donald Trump
Several weeks prior, legislators in Florida enacted a law to rename Palm Beach International Airport after President Donald J. Trump, with the change scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026. The initiative was put forth by Republican Florida State Representative Meg Weinberger, highlighting Trump’s importance and residence in Palm Beach County. The law was passed with a partisan vote and received the signature of Governor Ron DeSantis.

A licensing agreement has been established between Palm Beach County officials and Trump’s businesses. This arrangement, uncommon for the naming of presidential airports, is designed to shield the county from potential legal actions. Trump’s businesses will not earn royalties from airport sales but are permitted to market branded products off-site. Additionally, they oversee the roster of authorized retailers for airport merchandise. Trump holds veto authority over the display of his biography at the airport, while the county may use his name and likeness for promotional purposes with prior consent.

The renaming has ignited discussions, with some critics opposing the trend of designating airports after political figures, advocating for simpler, geography-based titles. Nevertheless, over ten U.S. airports bear the names of former presidents. The new designation will eliminate the city’s mention, resulting in President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
