Qantas has recently revealed its intention to launch a brand-new business class seat for its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, anticipated to be delivered in the fiscal year 2028. This fresh business class suite will keep the present configuration of 42 seats arranged in a staggered pattern but will incorporate substantial upgrades. These improvements encompass sliding privacy doors, beds that lie flat at 80 inches with broader footwells, 19-inch entertainment displays, and redesigned personal storage areas.
Although Qantas has not revealed the manufacturer of the seats, the new additions seem to be inspired by the Thompson Aero Vantage XL platform, akin to the existing Dreamliner seats but enhanced in various ways. Nevertheless, there is no indication that the current Dreamliners will receive these new cabin updates.
In contrast, Qantas’ forthcoming Airbus A350-1000s will boast different business class seating, regarded as superior. The A350s will employ the Safran Unity platform, also featuring staggered seating with a door, which is viewed as significantly better than the Thompson Aero Vantage XL seat.
Qantas’ choice to utilize the upgraded version of the existing platform for the 787s is likely aimed at preserving the same number of seats and operational efficiency.
