Qatar Airways to Launch Two Lounges in Frankfurt Airport Terminal 3
Frankfurt Airport Terminal 3 has recently been inaugurated, representing the first new terminal at the airport in over three decades. While the lounges within the terminal are still under construction, a noteworthy update has surfaced regarding oneworld airlines. At present, there isn’t a dedicated oneworld lounge in Terminal 3; however, Qatar Airways is set to launch two lounges in the non-Schengen area, situated close to the already functioning SkyTeam Lounge.

Although not officially confirmed, a sign posted outside a lounge area suggests that Qatar Airways is in the process of creating two facilities. This decision is fascinating, as Qatar Airways typically provides premium lounges at major airports, which are generally reserved for oneworld first and business class travelers, rather than oneworld Emerald or Sapphire members.

The possibility of a second lounge aimed at oneworld elite members marks a shift from Qatar Airways’ typical strategy, where elite members are usually guided to contract or partner lounges. This initiative is encouraging for oneworld travelers, delivering a superior ground experience with amenities such as cocktails, à la carte dining, and sophisticated decor.

Interestingly, this development comes in the wake of oneworld’s past intentions to establish branded lounges, with two current locations in Amsterdam and Seoul Incheon. With its substantial oneworld presence, Frankfurt appears to be an excellent candidate for such a lounge, prompting inquiries about the alliance’s approach and whether Qatar Airways secured this prospect ahead of others.

In summary, Qatar Airways’ intention to create lounges in Terminal 3 bodes well for passengers, even though it remains uncertain why the oneworld alliance didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to broaden its lounge network.
