Apple’s AirTag has transformed travel technology with its effortless tracking features, enabling users to easily monitor their luggage, bags, and backpacks. Nevertheless, its design overlooks one of the most essential items: the wallet. Introducing Ridge, a brand known for its sleek wallets, which has launched the Ridge Tracker Card, an AirTag specifically tailored for wallets.
**Configuration and Form**
The Tracker Card is marginally thicker than an ordinary credit card, yet maintains a weight that is quite similar. It boasts a stylish black finish with Ridge branding on the front and a subtle “Find My by Apple” logo on the reverse. The card has a small pressure-sensitive button for initial configuration, compatible with Apple’s Find My network.
**Similar to an AirTag… However**
Configuring the Tracker Card is akin to the process for an AirTag. Users simply open the Find My app, add a new device, assign it a name along with an optional emoji, and the configuration is finalized. The card then shows up on the Find My map, using nearby Apple devices to refresh its location. This procedure is effortless, requiring little attention until it’s time for a wireless charge every five months.
**Worst Case Scenario**
The Find My app provides alerts when the Tracker Card is out of range, as long as there is an Apple device available to send the notification. This feature proves crucial in scenarios such as possible pickpocketing or accidentally forgetting a wallet in a hotel. Users can then check the Find My map to track down their card.
When within 10 meters (30 feet), the Tracker Card can emit a beeping sound to assist in locating it. Nonetheless, it does not possess the ultra-wide band feature of an AirTag, meaning it does not provide precision location tracking arrows at close distances. Despite this drawback, the Tracker Card stands out as the leading AirTag alternative for wallets, thanks to its streamlined design.
