SAS Launches Free Starlink Wi-Fi on Airbus A320neo Aircraft
In early 2025, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) revealed intentions to launch complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi. An exciting update has emerged, as approximately 14 months later, the implementation of the service has officially commenced.

Scandinavian Airlines begins to provide free Starlink Wi-Fi

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has joined forces with SpaceX to roll out Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet. The best part is that SAS is providing Starlink Wi-Fi at no charge to all participants of its EuroBonus loyalty program (which is free to join), allowing members to connect multiple devices.

Starlink is recognized for its rapid, low-latency broadband internet, and the service is available gate to gate. Starlink Wi-Fi enables live streaming, productivity akin to on the ground (with high upload and download speeds), gaming, e-commerce, and more.

Starlink is gaining popularity among airlines. Thus far, we’ve witnessed carriers such as airBaltic, Air France, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Emirates, Gulf Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia, Korean Air, Lufthansa Group, Qatar Airways, SAS, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and WestJet all declare their plans to implement the service.

Another advantage of Starlink is that the installation is relatively swift, once aircraft receive certification for its implementation. I recently experienced my first flight with Starlink and was thoroughly impressed. Here’s how SAS’ Chief Commercial Officer Paul Verhagen articulates this:

“Connectivity has become an integral aspect of daily life, including during travel. With this rollout, we are taking a significant stride toward providing our customers with a more flexible, productive, and enjoyable experience on board. Whether they wish to work, create, play, or stay connected, this solution brings the onboard experience in line with how people live today.”

Scandinavian Airlines’ Starlink Wi-Fi rollout strategy

Upon SAS’s initial announcement regarding the introduction of Starlink Wi-Fi, the airline indicated that a phased installation would initiate in late 2025. In January 2026, the airline conducted a successful demo flight featuring Starlink, but since then, the service hasn’t been activated, and wide-scale installation hasn’t commenced… until now.

SAS is now beginning the rollout of Starlink, with Airbus A320neo aircraft being the first to receive the service. While SAS refrains from providing a specific timeline, the airline asserts it “anticipates a significant portion of the fleet to be connected before the summer season.” However, this appears to be particularly centered on A320neos, which comprise about two-thirds of the carrier’s fleet.

Installation on additional aircraft types, including wide-body planes, is expected later this year, pending regulatory approval. Therefore, if you’re flying with SAS in the upcoming months on an A320neo, don’t be surprised if your flight offers Starlink. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t anticipate Starlink availability on all aircraft until sometime in 2027.

Conclusion

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has initiated the process of installing Starlink Wi-Fi, which is complimentary for EuroBonus members. This is currently being rolled out, starting with Airbus A320neo aircraft. A considerable number of A320neos should feature this service by summer, and later this year, we can look forward to Starlink being implemented on more aircraft.

It’s fantastic to witness that complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is progressively becoming a standard in the industry, and I am eager to utilize this service.
