St. Regis Queenstown, New Zealand, is set to inaugurate a 145-key hotel in late 2027.
A St. Regis is set to arrive in what might be one of my favorite locations on the planet, a market that clearly requires more quality hotel choices.

The St. Regis brand is making its New Zealand debut

Announced plans include the St. Regis Queenstown, with the state-of-the-art facility anticipated to launch in late 2027. This 145-room hotel will be situated in central Queenstown, offering views of The Remarkables mountain range and Lake Wakatipu.

The establishment will showcase the signature St. Regis Bar, The Drawing Room, and a yet-to-be-revealed all-day dining venue. There will also be a comprehensive spa and wellness area, which will feature a gym accessible 24/7. True to the brand’s standards, butler service will be available as well.

Here’s what Richard Crawford, Marriott’s VP of Hotel Development for Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific, shared:

“We’re excited to soon introduce the iconic St Regis brand in such an outstanding destination. Established on New York’s 5th Avenue over 120 years ago, St Regis is a globally esteemed name in luxury, sought after by discerning travelers around the world.”

“Queenstown sees over two million visitors each year, making it perfect for a top-tier luxury hotel. The St Regis Queenstown is poised to be the pinnacle of hotel offerings in the area and will enhance Queenstown’s reputation as a must-visit destination.”

Beyond this information, specifics regarding the hotel are currently scarce.

A St. Regis is arriving in Queenstown, New Zealand

What a thrilling addition to the St. Regis collection!

New Zealand is one of the most stunning nations on earth, and Queenstown ranks among my favorite regions within it. I still recall my first trip there with my mom during high school—ah, the good old days of roundtrip business class to New Zealand costing 90,000 United MileagePlus miles, and flying Air New Zealand’s 747 from the front!

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza on my first visit to Queenstown.

Regardless, the scenery in Queenstown is simply breathtaking, and it’s certainly not a destination known for its hotel scene. The Carlin Hotel is a small, well-regarded boutique property in town, along with the Rosewood Matakauri, an excellent luxury lodge just outside the city. There’s also a Sofitel in the area. However, aside from these, luxury hotel choices are extremely limited, making this a wonderful addition.

The Rosewood Matakauri is situated just beyond the town limits.

I’m eager to experience the St. Regis the next time I’m in New Zealand. Another impressive aspect is that this will be the first St. Regis branded hotel established in all of Australia and New Zealand.

Bottom line

The St. Regis brand will be debuting in the Australia and New Zealand region with a hotel opening in Queenstown in late 2027. This 145-key establishment is expected to be the finest new international luxury property in the area. This marks a fantastic enhancement to the market, and I look forward to gathering more information.

What are your thoughts on the plans for the St. Regis Queenstown?
