Wyndham Diamond status: Reasons and methods to obtain it – The Points Guy

Wyndham Diamond status provides significant advantages during Wyndham hotel stays. Even though you may not regularly book Wyndham hotels and resorts, earning Wyndham Diamond status can still be beneficial — particularly because there are two straightforward methods to obtain it. Here are the key details.

Wyndham status perks

Certain hotel loyalty programs provide substantial benefits to their elite members; however, others provide limited advantages. Wyndham Rewards tends to be in the latter group, presenting only basic perks even to those who hold the highest tier, Diamond status. Nonetheless, here is a summary of the notable perks available at each Wyndham elite status tier:

  • Requires zero nights per year: Complimentary Wi-Fi for stays
  • Gold status typically requires five nights per calendar year. Benefits include a 10% bonus on points for stays, a preferred room within the same category upon request (subject to availability), and late checkout upon request (subject to availability).
  • Platinum status (usually necessitates 15 nights each calendar year): 15% extra points on stays, matching status with Caesars Rewards, and early check-in upon request (depending on availability).
  • Diamond status generally necessitates 40 nights per calendar year. It offers a 20% bonus on points for stays, a complimentary snack or beverage at check-in at certain hotels, and suite upgrades upon request, depending on availability at check-in.

Although the elite benefits are limited, obtaining Wyndham status can still be valuable. I value my Wyndham Diamond status because, even though Caesars stopped its status exchange program with Wyndham in 2022, Platinum members and above can still match their Wyndham Rewards status to Caesars Rewards. Achieving Caesars Platinum status provides free parking in Las Vegas, while Caesars Diamond status offers waived resort fees at Caesars Rewards properties and a complimentary stay at Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

Wyndham status matching and challenge.

Having understood the reasons for obtaining Wyndham status, let’s examine the ongoing Wyndham status match and challenge promotion. To participate in this offer, you must hold elite status with a different hotel loyalty program. Below are the corresponding statuses you can match to each Wyndham status level:

  • Gold: Member of Marriott Bonvoy, Member of World of Hyatt, Member of Hilton Honors, Member of IHG One Rewards, Member of Choice Privileges, Best Western Rewards Blue, Member of Radisson Rewards Club
  • Platinum: Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite; World of Hyatt Discoverist and Explorist; Hilton Honors Silver; IHG One Rewards Silver Elite and Gold Elite; Choice Privileges Gold and Platinum; Best Western Rewards Gold, Platinum, and Diamond; Radisson Rewards Premium
  • Diamond: Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite and above, World of Hyatt Globalist, Hilton Honors Gold and above, IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite and above, Choice Privileges Diamond, Best Western Rewards Diamond Select, Radisson Rewards VIP

To initiate a status match, visit Wyndham’s website, log into your account, and fill out the status match request form. You need to provide evidence of your hotel loyalty program status and then wait five to seven days for the validation process to be completed.

Upon Wyndham confirming your status match, an email will be sent to you, granting you the matched status for a period of 90 days. If you fulfill particular stay criteria within these 90 days, you can extend your matched status until December 31 of the subsequent calendar year. To retain Gold status, you must complete one qualifying night. For Platinum status, four qualifying nights are required, and for Diamond status, you need to stay for ten qualifying nights.

Wyndham Rewards considers most paid nights and award nights as qualifying stays. This means you can redeem Wyndham points to count toward qualifying nights for your status challenge. However, it’s important to note that Wyndham status obtained through a status match or challenge cannot be used to status match into the Caesars Rewards program.

Obtaining Wyndham status using a credit card

Several Wyndham credit cards provide elite status as a benefit for the duration of card membership. The status achieved through a Wyndham credit card can be matched to Caesars Rewards. Therefore, here is an overview of the Wyndham status you can secure through Wyndham credit cards:

  • Wyndham Rewards Earner® Card: Main cardholders are automatically granted Wyndham Rewards Gold status within two to eight weeks after activating this card without an annual fee.
  • Wyndham Rewards Earner® Plus Card: Main cardholders are granted Wyndham Rewards Platinum status automatically, within two to eight weeks after opening this card, which has a $75 annual fee.
  • Wyndham Rewards Earner® Business Card: Main cardholders are granted Wyndham Rewards Diamond status automatically within two to eight weeks of activating this card with an annual fee of $95.

The Points Guy has independently gathered the information for the Wyndham Earner, Wyndham Earner Plus, and Wyndham Earner Business cards. The card details presented on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

For those who appreciate Wyndham Diamond status but do not frequent Wyndham hotels for 40 nights annually, the Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Card is a great option. With a $95 annual fee, the 15,000 bonus points awarded each year after your card anniversary can easily justify the cost. Additionally, cardholders benefit from redeeming 10% fewer Wyndham Rewards points for Go Free awards, thereby making your points stretch further.

As previously stated, it’s possible to transfer elite status acquired via a Wyndham credit card to Caesars Rewards. I recently matched my Wyndham Diamond status — gained as the primary cardholder of the Wyndham Earner Business Card — to Caesars. Despite the match process taking approximately a month, I will now benefit from free parking at many Caesars locations, a complimentary stay at Atlantis later this year, and waived resort fees at Caesars properties.

Bottom line

Wyndham Rewards status acquired via a status match cannot be used to match with Caesars Rewards. However, Wyndham status achieved through stays or by using a Wyndham Rewards credit card can be matched to Caesars Rewards. If you value benefits such as Caesars Diamond perks, a 10% discount on Go Free award redemptions, and a 20% bonus on earnings for paid stays at Wyndham hotels, it might be worthwhile to get and keep the Wyndham Earner Business Card to maintain Wyndham Diamond status.
