YOTEL Joins Forces with Hilton Honors Program and Unveils Major Expansion Initiatives
Hilton and YOTEL have unveiled a new exclusive franchise agreement. This agreement means that all YOTEL properties will be integrated into the Hilton Honors portfolio, allowing members to book through Hilton channels and earn and redeem points.

All 23 YOTEL properties located in 10 countries are set to join Hilton Honors by late 2026. The partnership aims to more than triple the portfolio size in the upcoming years. The company is recognized for its highly efficient rooms in urban environments (YOTEL), and also offers in-terminal hotels (YOTELAIR) and extended stay accommodations (YOTELPAD).

YOTEL will be the inaugural brand in Hilton’s recently launched Select by Hilton concept, which the company outlines as follows:

Select by Hilton aims to evolve into a brand that introduces innovative lodging options for guests, assuring the trust, confidence, and advantages they anticipate from Hilton. Well-established, high-quality hotel brands joining Select by Hilton will maintain their unique identity and management while linking to the acclaimed Hilton Honors loyalty program and benefiting from Hilton’s superior distribution and technology frameworks.

Hilton’s Chief Development Officer, Christian Charnaux, articulated this as follows:

“The inclusion of YOTEL into Hilton’s network exemplifies our dedication to capital-efficient expansion through a relationship that complements our existing brand portfolio while providing guests with thoughtfully crafted, modern ways to stay at Hilton in key urban centers worldwide. This agreement enhances our network advantage by integrating a cherished independent brand like YOTEL into the robust Hilton Honors network and commercial distribution system, while retaining the distinctive qualities of the brand.”

Meanwhile, YOTEL’s CEO, Phil Andreopoulos, stated:

“Hilton offers unrivaled global distribution and loyalty scale to our brand and business. Our partnership with Hilton enables us to broaden our reach without losing our essence. The shift for YOTEL is in access – not identity – in a capital-light and scalable manner.”

This partnership appears to be a logical move for both brands.

Major hotel chains have been expanding at an astonishing rate in recent years with a strategy focused on asset-light growth. Essentially, the goal is to determine how entities like Hilton and Marriott can maximize the number of “heads in beds.”

We are increasingly witnessing major hotel groups diversify beyond traditional hotel models, and this is a prime illustration of that. Recently, Marriott acquired the citizenM brand, and I would consider YOTEL a competitor (at least in urban areas). Therefore, while Hilton is not acquiring YOTEL, a long-term agreement seems beneficial for both parties.

Although I haven’t stayed at a YOTEL city location, I have experienced several airport properties and found them to be consistently impressive. I find these compact rooms quite cozy, and YOTEL excels in functional design and comfort. Thus, if I can earn and redeem Hilton Honors points for my next YOTEL visit, I am quite pleased!

In summary,

YOTEL is teaming up with Hilton, leading to the integration of approximately two dozen existing properties into the Hilton Honors program later this year. With this increased visibility, YOTEL aims for significant growth, targeting to more than triple its property count in the years ahead.

Given that Marriott recently acquired citizenM, it seems logical for Hilton to seek partnership with a similar brand.

What are your thoughts on the collaboration between Hilton and YOTEL?
