**Your Guide to Living and Working in New Zealand as a Digital Nomad**

# Living the Digital Nomad Dream in New Zealand

## Introduction

It has always been my aspiration to live the digital nomad life in New Zealand, and I finally turned that aspiration into a reality. Coming from the [UK](https://www.goatsontheroad.com/uk-travel-guide/), New Zealand feels like one of the furthest places to venture before starting the journey back home.

New Zealand, with its vast and stunning landscapes, serves as a perfect haven for remote workers looking for a leisurely rhythm infused with adventure, culture, and excitement. I’ve never encountered a place quite like New Zealand, and I’m excited to share my journey with you.

## Discovering New Zealand

New Zealand is an island nation in the Pacific renowned for its awe-inspiring scenery, ranging from lush woodlands and impressive peaks to quaint towns and lively cities. With just over [5 million residents](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand), it has an inviting ambiance for tourists.

Even with its distant location, New Zealand offers great WiFi and some of the finest coffee globally. Whether you’re trekking in [Queenstown](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Queenstown+9300,+New+Zealand/), experiencing the vibrant nightlife in Auckland, enjoying the rejuvenating [hot springs of Rotorua](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lake+Rotorua+Hot+Springs/), or visiting sites from [The Lord of the Rings](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lord_of_the_Rings_(film_series)), there’s something to captivate everyone.

## Life as a Digital Nomad in New Zealand

During my month as a digital nomad in New Zealand, I divided my time between a **two-week house sit in Auckland**, a week traversing the North Island, and an additional week exploring the South Island.

With frequent travel in a condensed timeframe, I had to be flexible with my remote work arrangements. Luckily, even in some of the most secluded areas, I discovered dependable WiFi and high-quality coworking spaces.

In the later sections of this guide, I will highlight the top coworking spaces and cafes I found, but let me assure you, staying connected throughout my time in New Zealand was never a challenge.

## How Safe is New Zealand?

New Zealand is [recognized as one of the safest destinations worldwide](https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurabegleybloom/2024/10/20/the-15-safest-countries-to-travel-ranked-in-a-new-report/). The crime rate is low, and the inhabitants are known for their warm hospitality. Regardless of whether I was in the countryside, a small town, or a major city, I consistently felt safe.

In contrast to neighboring Australia, New Zealand features **no venomous snakes or lethal spiders**—just countless sheep and birds! However, it is [vulnerable to earthquakes](https://teara.govt.nz/en/map/4416/new-zealand-regions-at-greatest-risk-of-ground-shaking) due to being situated on the [Pacific Ring of Fire](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_of_Fire). Most structures are engineered to endure seismic activity, and earthquake readiness is integrated into everyday life.
