Several weeks ago, I discussed the impending closure of the inaugural Chase Sapphire Lounge. At that moment, we lacked definitive information about its future, but we now have clarity, so let’s review the specifics.
In this post:
The Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong has ceased operations
In recent years, the Chase Sapphire Lounge network has expanded and developed, featuring some quite premium lounges. The original lounge debuted in October 2022, namely the Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong (HKG).
This location was somewhat unconventional, as the lounge network primarily targets the United States, due to the Chase Sapphire Reserve being available solely in the U.S. Notably, access protocols also differed here, with the Hong Kong lounge welcoming all Priority Pass members without annual visit limitations.
In early December 2025, it was revealed that the Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong would close its doors effective January 5, 2026. The company did not provide further commentary on the rationale behind this closure, leaving us with mere speculation.
It’s important to note Chase’s distinctive strategy for its lounge network concerning partnerships and revenue generation. Firstly, Chase Sapphire Lounges are managed in collaboration with The Club. Additionally, Chase Sapphire Lounges are accessible via Priority Pass — Priority Pass holders with an eligible Chase card enjoy unlimited yearly access, while those with a non-Chase card are restricted to one visit per year to a U.S. location.
Thus, the monetization structure appears to be more intricate compared to the Amex Centurion Lounges, where cardmembers have straightforward access through their cards, making tracking simple.
I theorized that having a non-U.S. location within the Chase Sapphire Lounge network might not meet any strategic objectives, leading me to believe that Chase found it unbeneficial to maintain involvement.

This venue has been rebranded as the Kyra Lounge
The premises of the Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong have reopened as the Kyra Lounge. For context, this marks the second Kyra Lounge establishment at the airport. I’ve previously reviewed the first Kyra Lounge, which launched in 2024, and I consider it to be a very high-quality Priority Pass lounge.
The first Kyra Lounge Hong Kong debuted in 2024
The second Kyra Lounge is also accessible through Priority Pass, offering access up to three hours prior to departure.
I believe the rebranding of this space as the Kyra Lounge corroborates my suspicions — it simply didn’t align with Chase’s focus on U.S. lounges.
Bottom line
The Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong closed as of January 5, 2026, and has now transitioned to the Kyra Lounge. This is the second Kyra Lounge venue within the airport, and I anticipate it will rank among the superior Priority Pass lounges available.
This was the inaugural lounge of the entire Chase Sapphire Lounge network, making its closure quite unusual. However, it seemed odd from the outset for Chase to establish a lounge internationally, so I’m not particularly surprised by this development.
What are your thoughts on the rebranding of the Chase Sapphire Lounge Hong Kong?
