Korean Air is making notable progress in improving its passenger experience, recognizing its earlier reputation as somewhat inferior among Asian airlines. A crucial element of this effort is the extensive renovation of its lounge network, highlighted by a significant refurbishment at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The Korean Air Lounge at LAX has been temporarily closed for redevelopment and is scheduled to reopen on March 6, 2026, following a $45 million, 22-month renovation. The refreshed lounge now spans two levels and includes three distinct zones: the First Class Lounge on the sixth floor, and the Miler Club and Prestige Class Lounge on the fifth floor. The total area of the lounge is 1,675 square meters (18,000 square feet), marking a 25% increase from its former dimensions.
The lounge’s design features floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony terrace, providing views of the airport’s interior and creating a bright, inviting environment. The interior utilizes warm wood textures and high-quality stone materials to convey a modern interpretation of Korean luxury.
The First Class Lounge provides a bespoke experience with private suites, a la carte dining, and a fully stocked bar. The Miler Club and Prestige Class Lounge boast an open-kitchen design with live cooking stations, allowing guests to enjoy local specialties such as Southern California craft beers. A digital ordering system enables Miler Club passengers to place orders from a special menu directly from their seats.
The lounge is designed to cater to a variety of passenger requirements, featuring business areas, family seating, and shower facilities. This renovation is part of Korean Air’s comprehensive strategy to revitalize its U.S. lounges, with an updated lounge also in the works for New York’s JFK.
David Pacey, Korean Air’s EVP and Chief of Inflight Service and Lounges, reiterated the airline’s dedication to delivering a refined and distinctive premium travel experience, asserting that the new lounge will enhance Korean Air’s image at LAX.
The renovation of the LAX lounge represents a significant enhancement, responding to previous critiques of Korean Air’s lounges abroad. The Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX has undergone improvements in SkyTeam lounges, including the addition of the Air France Lounge and Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, providing more options for SkyTeam travelers.
