YOTEL & Hilton Sign Exclusive Franchise Deal

Hilton and YOTEL are introducing a new exclusive deal. Through this franchise agreement, all YOTEL locations will become part of the Hilton Honors collection, allowing members to make bookings via Hilton channels and earn and redeem points.

All 23 YOTEL locations across 10 countries are anticipated to join Hilton Honors. This collaboration aims to more than triple the portfolio in the coming years. The company is recognized for its efficiently designed rooms in urban areas (YOTEL), in addition to having some in-terminal options (YOTELAIR) and extended stay accommodations (YOTELPAD).

Regarding the timeline:

– Starting July 15, 2026, the YOTEL Club program will be phased out, and members will be encouraged to enroll in Hilton Honors through personalized offers based on past stay history with YOTEL, which will include incentives for instant and/or fast-tracked access to Hilton Honors elite status.
– Also commencing July 15, 2026, we’ll begin to see the capability to earn and redeem Hilton Honors points at YOTEL locations, although earning and redemption rates are yet to be disclosed.
– The expectation is that most YOTEL locations will finalize the transition to Hilton Honors by early September 2026.

YOTEL will be the inaugural brand within Hilton’s newly launched Select by Hilton initiative, which the company outlines as follows:

“Select by Hilton is crafted to evolve into a brand that offers innovative staying options for guests, with the trust, assurance, and benefits they anticipate from Hilton. High-quality, renowned hotel brands that affiliate with Select by Hilton will maintain their unique identity and brand management while linking to the award-winning Hilton Honors loyalty program and benefiting from Hilton’s superior distribution and technology platforms.”

Here’s how Hilton’s Chief Development Officer, Christian Charnaux, articulated this:

“The integration of YOTEL into Hilton’s network exemplifies our dedication to capital-efficient growth through a synergy that complements our existing brand portfolio, providing guests with designed, modern alternatives to stay with Hilton in vital urban centers worldwide. This agreement further enhances our network effect by incorporating a cherished independent brand such as YOTEL into the substantial Hilton Honors network and commercial distribution system, while maintaining the essence of what makes the brand special.”

Meanwhile, here’s what YOTEL’s CEO, Phil Andreopoulos, expressed:

“Hilton provides unparalleled global reach and loyalty scale to our brand and operations. The relationship between YOTEL and Hilton enables us to broaden our influence while remaining true to our identity. What changes for YOTEL is access – not identity – in a capital-efficient and scalable manner.”

This Certainly Appears to be a Reasonable Collaboration for Both Brands

The significant hotel conglomerates have been experiencing rapid growth in recent years with a capital-light approach. Essentially, the strategy is to discover how giants like Hilton and Marriott can maximize their share of “heads in beds.”

We are increasingly witnessing major hotel groups diversifying beyond conventional hotel models, and this exemplifies that trend. Recently, we observed Marriott acquire the citizenM brand, and I would consider YOTEL a rival (at least for city properties). Thus, while Hilton isn’t taking over YOTEL, a long-term agreement appears beneficial for both parties.

While I haven’t personally stayed at a YOTEL city property, I have experienced multiple airport locations, and I have consistently found them quite commendable. I think these compact accommodations are incredibly cozy, and YOTEL excels in functional design and comfort. Therefore, if I can earn and spend Hilton Honors points during my next YOTEL visit, I find that quite appealing! I don’t anticipate the points redemptions will provide exceptional value, but I do hope that it won’t involve paying inflated rates just to earn points.

Final Thoughts

YOTEL is set to collaborate with Hilton, leading to the addition of approximately two dozen existing locations into the Hilton Honors program in the near future. With this expanded visibility, YOTEL aims for significant growth and to more than triple its property count in the upcoming years.

With Marriott’s recent acquisition of citizenM, it is reasonable for Hilton to pursue a partnership with a brand like this.
